World Banknotes have common features and these features shows differences according to countries and years . So every world banknote can have different features. In modern world banknotes we name the sides of the banknoteas the front and back . Lets take a look at the common features of banknotes;
Name of Issuing Authority : Generally Central Banks or the issuing authority name appears on the top of the banknote on the front side. Sometimes if the bank name is not in English , you can see the English name of the issuing authority in the back side.
Denomination : Generally you can see the Denomination of the banknote which tells us the nominal value of the banknote both on front and back side of the banknotes. Generally we can see the denomination in universal numerals and sometimes the denomination of the banknote is written in text. You can also see different languages on the denominations according to the country it is issued in .
Date Of Issue : Mostly you can see the issue date on the world banknotes while in some modern banknotes it does not exist. The issue date is given in world banknotes in different types like full date or just year and sometimes according to Hejira Calendar dates. Some countries also hide the issue date at the serial number of the banknote.
Promise To Pay : We can not see this phrase mostly in modern world banknotes but in old world banknotes , you can see the phrase ” promise to pay ” written on the banknote. This phrase is written in world banknotes on time to back their value with coins usually with silver and gold.
Serial Numbers : World Banknotes have serial numbers since they are started to first used. Today, while still retaining their original function, serial numbers are an integral part of the world modern banknotes, providing security and identity to the notes on which they are printed. Now in modern world banknotes most of them carry one serial number and a repetition of the serial number. According to countries it show differences on the serial numbers like 6 times repeating serial number on a banknote. The serial numbers generally could repeat with different Latin letters where some countries use non-Latin letters to repeat the serial numbers. This letters or the serial number prefixes is used by many authorities to indicate the year in which the notes were produced.
Series Prefixes Suffixes : Generally world banknotes contains series , prefixes or suffixes according to countries they are made for . Usually they are placed up before serial numbers as in Letters or Numerals. Also some world banknotes directly “Series” printed on the banknotes like “Series XBJ” or “Series 2011” . Some collectors take care of series too much , because these series give them information about the printing quantity of those series or rarity of that serie. Also in some countries people like to make a Serie collection of a banknote .
Signatures : Generally the world banknotes have at least one or two signatures but there are many world banknotes in history that carries a lot of signatures (up to 14 ). These signatures generally takes place on banknotes as signatures of Chief Cashiers , Presidents, Sultans , Chairmans ,Governors Issuing Authorities.
Security Features : When banknotes were first used there are just few security features on them . Today with the technology , there are many different types of security features. Security Features are very important for banknotes to realize the difference between the real and the imitation.The companies are specialized in security printing and in years there are many different and new security features added to banknotes to prevent counterfeit.
Some of the security features can be identified with eye , some of them can be identified by hand .The top known security features are watermark ,security fibres, security threads ,embossings , micro printings , see through panels ,holographic patches.
